Sefton Health Improvement Support
Service works with organisations that can demonstrate a commitment
to sustaining the project and adopting sun-safe practices. Selection
is also subject to available funding. Organisations need to
fulfil the following criteria:
- Members of the organisation belong to the at-risk group
for cancer. For example, young people under 15 years old
or those exposed to the outdoors for long periods of time
(outdoor workers, people engaged in outdoor sports and leisure
activities).
- The organisation is committed to a healthy lifestyle
programme, such as the Healthy Schools Scheme.
- The organisation has or will adopt an active sun-safe
policy that encompasses parents, careres and members of
it's wider community. Support for policy development is
available from Sefton Health Improvement Support Service
(see section 9 for contact details).
- The organisation can demonstrate active involvement in
an environmental improvement programme, such as environment
clubs, school/neighborhood grounds development plans or
green housekeeping activities.
- The organisation is able to elect designated members
who will commit to take the Living Shade initiative forward
for example, the healthy schools working team.
- The organisation will take responsibility for the availability
and active participation of sufficient numbers of helpers
during the construction of the willow feature (this should
include a minimum of 3 adults).
- The site is deemed environmentally appropriate for the
construction of a willow sculpture. Sefton Health Improvement
Support Service and the contracted willow artists will conduct
a site visit to determine its suitability for a willow structure
and recommendations as to the type of structure.
- Members of the organisation can routinely access and
make regular use of the Living Shade willow structure.
